Meet Our Bee-Keepers

Kevin
The only boy in a family of five, Kevin has been involved in the family business for over five decades, having watched his father carefully nurture the bees since he was a young child.
Learning the craft
In his teenage years, he would help carry in the crates, shake in the swarms and help with swarm control. He gained first hand, practical experience from watching Jerry at work and helped with the manual labour involved in the upkeep of the bees.
From Dairy Farmer to Bee-keeper
He trained and worked on the family farm as a dairy farmer, exclusively for forty years, having received a Green Cert and achieved a diploma in Dairy Husbandry & Management. In 2017, he became more involved in Molaga Honey and helped his father scale the business, to supply national supermarkets, which was a huge milestone for the business.
Taking over the business
He took over the business in 2020 and it is his main focus. He is passionate about providing the highest quality, unblended honey to market and believes his relaxed, carefree upbringing in rural West Cork, gave him the recipe for keeping things simple and wanting to continue the tradition of producing raw, natural honey from his family farm.
Annette
Annette, Kevin’s sister, is also an avid beekeeper and has her own apiary in Kerry. She learned the craft and a love of bees from her father, Jerry. She was always available in the past to lend a hand during the busy periods with the bees. However, since retiring she is delighted to have more time to help Kevin in West Cork with managing the apiaries, taking off the honey and extracting it.
Taking her interest further
Annette has completed year one of the Federation of Irish Beekeepers Association (FIBKA) exam and is currently studying for her Diploma in Apiculture with University College Galway.
